Built for the Pacific Northwest: Navigating Weather, Site Conditions & Schedules

Building in Western Washington comes with a unique set of challenges. From steady rain and muddy sites to permitting timelines and variable soil conditions, no two projects or days on site are the same.

At Mountain Construction, this is the environment we know—and the one we know how to build in.

Working Through the Weather

In the Pacific Northwest, rain is part of the job. That means planning for it and working through it.

Our crews come prepared with the right gear and mindset. When sites get muddy, we stabilize them with additional rock to maintain access and keep work moving safely, on schedule, and on budget.

Managing Concrete Work

Concrete is where weather has the biggest impact.

Flatwork like slabs, sidewalks, and surfacing is best completed in dry conditions, especially when appearance matters. Even light rain during a pour can affect the finish.

Because of that, these scopes are scheduled carefully and typically toward the end of a project. Timing is critical and the margin for error is small, which means plans need to stay flexible.

We coordinate closely with our subcontractors to make sure our projects remain a priority when weather windows open. That often means working longer days and being ready to move quickly when conditions line up.

Planning for Soil & Site Conditions

Soil conditions across Western Washington can vary widely and are heavily influenced by the season.

Whenever possible, we plan major earthwork during the summer months when conditions are drier. It’s more efficient, more predictable, and often more cost-effective. The same work can look very different in January when saturated soils slow progress and add complexity.

Not every project can be timed perfectly, which is where experience and planning make the difference.

Built to Adapt

Building in the Pacific Northwest means being ready for anything.

We work closely with clients, design teams, and subcontractors to stay proactive and keep projects on track. Clear communication and flexibility keep projects on track without compromising quality.

When a client is ready to move forward, we are too. We don’t wait for perfect conditions—we find a way to get the job done.
